Hollywood Fringe here I come!

As you can tell from the blog heading, I will be doing the Hollywood Fringe this Spring with Bye Bye Bombay.  I’ve got a great little theatre called Theatre Asylum to perform in.  Here are some more details about the space : http://www.cafearts.com/

It’s been a great week.  We did another workshop of The Big Oops at the Havana Theatre on Monday.  The house was packed and we had another productive talk back session with the audience about the show.  TJ Dawe did a reading of his new solo show afterward.  The show is called Lucky Nine and I really enjoyed it.  It’s got all the usual TJ rhythm and wit, but this show’s more person, more exposed than his past work which makes it really engaging.

Last night I went to the Crazy 8’s screening at the Vogue.  It’s such a fabulous event.  Awesome to see so many people out supporting independent film.  This year hundreds of people pitched their ideas, but in the end 6 films 8 minute films were chosen to be made in 8 days for $800.  I was impressed with the quality and look forward to seeing where they go in the future.

I also was lucky enough to have some old friends from Halifax in Vancouver doing a show this week.  2b Theatre’s production of The Russian Play and Mexico City two one acts by Hanna Moscovich was awesome (and not just because I got to hang with some dear old friends).  I’m just sorry that the show isn’t running longer because now  when I tell people how great they were, they won’t have a chance to see them.

The economy, precision and balance of great writing, direction, lighting, and acting made the whole experience such a treat.  Colombe Demers blew me away he lead actress in The Russian Play.  She had you laughing on minute, and then with a simple turn she’d make you want to weep.  That is how it’s done!
