From Mexico back into the madness

From a relaxing create escape into a week of inspiring film.

Tuesday – I was a reviewer for the 72 hour Filmmaker Showdown in Whistler.  Paul Armstrong and myself had the task of narrowing down the 39 films entered in the competition down to the 8 which were screened at the gala.  The 1200 tickets to the screening sold out in less than 6 minutes.  The past two years I’ve acted as a reviewer for the 72 hour film making competition I’ve been struck by the quality of the films made in such limited time.  There are a lot of talented people who enter the competition every year and it’s no easy job picking the top 8 films.

Wednesday – I helped out with another sold out Canada Screens at Vancouver’s poshest venue Cinema 319.  The First Weekend Club screened Michael Brown’s road trip flick Passenger Side.

Thursday – I covered the Projecting Change Festival for Novus TV’s City Light.  Projecting Change is Vancouver’s only film festival that focuses on social and environmental issues.  This year David Suzuki and Paul Watson will be speaking.  The opening party at Upholstery Arts was awesome (as it is every year).

Friday – I went to the opening of Vancouver filmmaker Cam Labine’s CONTROL ALT DELETE.  The screening at Tinseltown was followed by a Q & A and party with the cast and crew.  It is very funny film, defiantly worth checking out.

Saturday – Believe it or not, I stayed it.  It felt great!
